WMS President Concluding Remarks 2022

Mitochondria 2022 speakersOne year ago, at the conclusion of the 12th edition of our World Conference series, which was also the second COVID-caused virtual conference in a row, I expressed my sincere hope that we would meet again in person in October 2022 and so we did! Considering that our 13th World Conference on Targeting Mitochondria held October 26-28, 2022 was attended by 210 participants from 34 countries I dare to claim that the two years of the pandemic did not cause any diminished interest of mitochondrial enthusiasts from all over the world to meet again in Berlin in person.

Without hesitation I therefore would like to express my gratitude to everyone who returned to our annual meeting and at the same time I also would like to thank anyone who attended our Targeting Mitochondria meeting for the very first time. I hope you did not regret having made the journey to Berlin.

The success of a scientific conference rests on two pillars, the quality and enthusiasm of its organizing team and the quality of all speakers and presenters. As President of the World Mitochondria Society, I am extremely grateful to the Founder of our society and Chairman of the scientific committee, Prof. Marvin Edeas and his outstanding team in Paris. Without their hard and relentless work, I would not be in the position of having the pleasure writing these concluding remarks right now.

My genuine thanks go to all invited speakers, to all presenters of short oral communications and of posters. The high quality of all of your contributions was essential for the success of our 13th Berlin meeting. The planning of the next, the 14th meeting at the end of October 2023 has already started. I am very much looking forward to seeing you again one year from now in Berlin!
