The study is a result of collaboration between Dr Lloyd, a mitochondrial biologist, and Dr John McGeehan, a structural biologist.

During ISANH Congress on Antioxidants organized in Paris on July 3-4, 2013 (www.isanh.fr), which celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the creation of ISANH, one of the main discussion showed that antioxidants play their role by modulating redox signaling pathways and not a counter "balance" to oxidant formation. They act to modulate cells signaling domains in which redox signaling occurs.
Mitochondria are a localized signlaing domain and ROS (Superoxidase and Hydrogen Peroxidase) generated by respiratory chain are signaling molecules.

The Scientific Committee of Targeting Mitochondria 2013 asked Pr Wallace to present the recent studies relaized in collaboration with Pr Peter J. Burke from the University of Integrated Nanosystem Research Facility, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Irvine, California. This study was published in Analytical Chemistry last May.
